MG Legal Ops vs. an agency

Agency-quality work, without the agency.

Many law firms get their website from a marketing agency. Here is how working with us compares: what you pay, how long it takes, who owns the result, and who you talk to. We also say plainly where an agency may suit you better.

Side by side

What changes when you work with us.

Agencies differ, and some do excellent work. This is how a typical agency arrangement for a law-firm website compares with ours.

TopicMG Legal OpsA typical agency
PriceFixed and agreed before we start: $2,000 to build with a 12-month care plan, then $400 a month.Often a proposal and a retainer, with extra work billed by the hour as it comes up.
Time to launchAbout four weeks. Our last site went live about two weeks after the move began.Rebuilds often take several months.
Who owns itYour firm, from day one: the domain, the site's code and content, and every Google account. Some keep the domain, the hosting or the site in their own name, which makes leaving hard.
Who you talk toThe people who design, write and build your site.Usually an account manager, who passes your requests to the people doing the work.
How it is builtBy hand, with no plugins, page builder or bolted-on widgets.Often a WordPress theme with a stack of plugins, each one to keep updated.
SecurityHTTPS, a strict content security policy and security headers on every page, and no public admin login to attack.Depends on plugins and updates being kept current; an out-of-date plugin is a common way in.
AccessibilityBuilt and checked to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, with an accessibility statement for your firm.Varies; often not checked against a stated standard.
SpeedAbout two seconds to load a page on a phone.Themes and plugins add weight, and pages often load more slowly.
After launchUp to four hours of changes a month, hosting, security updates, backups and a one-page monthly report, all in the care plan.Changes often quoted one by one, or held in a queue.
Google AdsRun in your firm's own Ads account; Google bills your card directly, and the ads are never in our price.Sometimes run in the agency's account, with the ad spend passing through its invoice.
LeavingStop the care plan and we hand everything over within a week, at no charge. Can mean a long contract, an exit fee, or rebuilding somewhere else.
To be fair

Where an agency may suit you better.

We do one thing - law-firm websites, and the Google Ads that bring visitors to them - and we do it well. Some firms want more than that.

Everything under one roof.

If you also want a new logo and brand, video, print, or your social media run for you, a full-service agency covers more ground than we do today. Interested in one of those from us? Tell us: we are considering adding services.

A large team.

We are a small team. If you want an account manager, weekly status meetings and a roster of specialists, an agency is set up for that.
