Deadline calendaring

Ask for this when: you have worked out a matter's dates and want them on Clio's calendar, on your Outlook calendar, and as reminders, without entering them three times.

"Calendar the deadlines for 00041-Alvarez: answer due October 3, discovery cutoff January 15, remind me a week before each." "Trial is March 3 at 9 in Division 4; add it to both calendars." "Service was September 12; 21 days for the answer - put it on."

What it does

It asks for the matter, the triggering event, and each deadline - its date, or the interval and how you count it - plus the reminder you want ahead of each. When you give it an interval it does the arithmetic in the open ("21 days from September 12 is October 3, a Saturday") and asks you what to do about a weekend or holiday; it never moves a date on its own.

It checks the matter for entries already on the calendar so nothing is added twice, then shows you one table: each deadline, its date, the Clio entry, the Outlook entry, and the reminder task. On your yes it creates them in that order, with the Outlook entry tied to the Clio one so the pair can never be duplicated, then checks both calendars and reports what it made. Everything it created can be undone.

What it can't do

  • It does not compute legal deadlines. It will not tell you how many days a rule gives, whether a Saturday rolls to Monday, or what service by mail adds. You know the rule; it does the sum you ask for and shows its work. If you state the rule and the date, it uses your date.
  • It will not take a date from inside an email as the trigger unless you confirm it.
  • It adds no attendees to anything and never emails anyone.
  • It puts entries on your own Clio and Outlook calendars, signed in as you. Another person's calendar is not reachable from your seat.
