MG Legal Ops Free trial

What's new

Every release, newest first. Each one reaches every attorney's computer on its own the next time Claude Code starts the assistant. In the assistant is what the attorney can now ask for, in the words the assistant uses to tell them after an update. Around it is everything else that changed: the website, the terms, pricing, the free trial, security, and the service that supports the assistant. A release with neither is fixes and small improvements.

Release 208 (2026-10-15)

In the assistant

  • An email in your firm's shared intake mailbox can now be filed to a matter the same way as your own mail: "file the intake email to the matter we just opened", shown to you first and filed on your yes. The email is copied into Clio - nothing in the shared mailbox is moved or marked, so the next person to open it sees it as it was - and one the assistant is sure about appears in the filing review's ready-to-file list like any other.

Release 207 (2026-10-15)

In the assistant

  • If your firm has a shared mailbox you open from Outlook - an intake mailbox where the website's enquiries land, say - you can add one of its folders to your review folders: "add the intake mailbox's Inbox to my review folders". Your filing review and the paralegal rundown then show that mailbox on its own: how many of its emails have nothing in Clio yet and the latest few, so new enquiries are not lost among other mail, and you can read any of them. The first time, you sign out and sign in again and allow it to read mail shared with you - reading only. The billing review never looks at a shared mailbox, and filing an email out of one is not available yet.

Release 206 (2026-10-11)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 205 (2026-10-11)

Around it

  • The privacy policy now says that monthly totals drawn from our service's own counts, which identify nobody, are kept in our business records.

Release 204 (2026-10-11)

In the assistant

  • Ask "how much did I bill last week?" or "what did I log this month?" and get your own Clio time for the period added up - entries, hours, the billable amount, what is on bills and what is not yet - by day and by matter, from Clio's own records.
  • The weekly digest now shows the week's time as recorded in Clio, every entry, beside what went through the assistant.

Release 203 (2026-10-11)

In the assistant

  • The possible-missing-time review now shows a day's email thread on a matter as one item instead of one per reply, and no longer counts a deadline, due date, reminder or out-of-office block on the Clio calendar as something you attended.

Release 202 (2026-10-11)

In the assistant

  • Asking about a matter whose Clio calendar carries a long recurring series - a court session every week for years ahead - no longer fails: the matter shows its recent and next calendar entries and says how many repeats it left out, while a differently-titled date further out, like a trial, is still shown.

Release 201 (2026-10-11)

In the assistant

  • Your morning brief and weekly digest no longer fail on a busy week: the possible-missing-time check now comes back as a short summary - how many items, which matters they fall on, and the most recent ones named - with a count of the rest. Ask for a billing review when you want every item.

Release 199 (2026-10-05)

Around it

  • A computer whose update key GitHub no longer accepts now gets a new one on its own, through the MG Legal Ops account service, the next time the assistant starts - for a signed-in person the firm lists, at most once an hour. Nobody at a firm needs a GitHub account, and no maintainer step is involved.

Release 198 (2026-10-05)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 197 (2026-10-05)

Around it

  • Microsoft has verified MG Legal Ops LLC as the publisher of the MG Legal Ops application. The approval page a firm's Microsoft 365 administrator opens, and the sign-in to a firm's own MG Legal Ops account, now show the publisher's name with Microsoft's verified badge.

Release 196 (2026-10-02)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 195 (2026-10-02)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 194 (2026-10-01)

Around it

  • No firm registers an application any more. A firm's Microsoft 365 administrator approves MG Legal Ops with one link, about two minutes, and Clio asks each person at their own first sign-in; nobody creates an application or handles a secret. The request documents and the Clio walkthrough are gone from the site, replaced by one page for the Microsoft administrator.

Release 193 (2026-10-01)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 192 (2026-10-01)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 188 (2026-10-01)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 187 (2026-10-01)

In the assistant

  • A filing that fails before anything is written - Clio or Outlook refusing or timing out for a moment - no longer uses up your approval. Say yes once; when you try again, the same approval files it.
  • A thread where one message was filed by hand no longer hides the later messages in it: each one is offered for filing until it is filed itself.
  • Suggested bill wording no longer carries a mail system's tags like "[EXT]" from a subject line.
  • When you dictate the wording for a time entry it is used word for word, and for substantive work the assistant asks how you would describe it rather than writing it for you.

Around it

  • The Microsoft 365 registration guide for IT providers now leads with the registration that needs no secret; the client-secret registration stays as the alternative for a firm whose policy requires one.

Release 186 (2026-10-01)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 185 (2026-10-01)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 184 (2026-10-01)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 183 (2026-10-01)

Around it

  • The website now counts its page views as it serves them, without cookies or a tracking script: the page, the country, and a hash of the address that changes each day. The privacy page says what is kept and for how long.

Release 182 (2026-10-01)

Around it

  • Two new articles: uploading .eml files to Clio, and what that leaves out; and matter intake in Clio, the checklist done in order.
  • A new FAQ answer: what the subscription pays for, beyond an integration.

Release 175 (2026-09-17)

Around it

  • The website, redesigned for a cleaner, more professional look: a shorter headline with an example conversation beneath it, one price stated once, a consistent page head on every page, and a new link-preview image.

Release 174 (2026-09-17)

In the assistant

  • If GitHub cannot be reached when the assistant starts, it now says so and tries again next time, instead of reporting that this computer's access was refused.

Release 173 (2026-09-17)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 172 (2026-09-17)

Around it

  • A new article: ABA Opinion 512 and a Clio assistant's controls.

Release 171 (2026-09-17)

Around it

  • The daily subscription check now also carries a one-way hash of an identifier the software makes at random on each computer, so that an attorney who uses two computers is counted as one attorney with two computers rather than two attorneys. It is not the computer's name, serial number or address, and the privacy policy says what it is.

Release 170 (2026-09-17)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 169 (2026-09-17)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 168 (2026-09-16)

Around it

  • Our privacy policy now says exactly how long we keep the records our own service makes about itself: a record of an error is deleted after thirty days, and the daily counts, which identify nobody, after two years. Nothing about what we keep for a firm has changed.

Release 167 (2026-09-16)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 166 (2026-09-16)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 165 (2026-09-16)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 164 (2026-09-16)

In the assistant

  • Filing an email with many attachments now pauses for a moment when Clio says it is close to its limit on how quickly records can be saved, instead of failing partway. If a filing is still interrupted, you are told what already reached the matter, and filing the same email again finishes it, including any attachment whose upload did not complete, without creating a duplicate.

Release 163 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 162 (2026-09-15)

Around it

  • The privacy policy now says everything the daily subscription check reports about each computer - whether the assistant's files were changed there, which update channel and code repository it follows, when the assistant last started and whether its automatic update worked - and that the latest check is kept with the attorney's seat for as long as the firm's account exists.

Release 161 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 160 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • If your firm keeps its connection details on file with MG Legal Ops, they are now deleted after 30 days without use, and an administrator can have them deleted at any time by saying "take our connection details off file"; until they are put back on file, a new colleague's folder is built on the firm's setup page.

Around it

  • Connection details a firm keeps on file with us, so a colleague can download their own setup folder, are now deleted after thirty days without use, and any of the firm's administrators can have them deleted sooner. The privacy policy says so.

Release 159 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 158 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 157 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 156 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • Seeing who is on your firm's account, adding someone or changing a role, and putting the firm's connection details on file now ask the administrator to prove it is them: the assistant gives a link, you sign in there with your own work Microsoft account, and read the assistant the short code the page shows. The code works once, for that one request.
  • A download link for someone's own folder now works for three days and for one download, and only after that person signs in with the work Microsoft account the link was sent to; the firm's setup page asks one of its administrators to sign in the same way before it builds any folder.
  • The first time anyone at your firm signs in this way, Microsoft may ask you to approve MG Legal Ops's sign-in, which only signs you in; if it says an administrator has to approve it, your IT provider does that once.

Release 155 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 154 (2026-09-15)

Around it

  • The form for joining your firm's account, and the note to the team in the question box, now include a quick check that you are a person, the same one the sign-up form uses. The join form's reply is the same whether or not it found your firm; your firm's administrators still approve you before anything is issued.

Release 153 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 152 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 151 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 150 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 149 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 148 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • On a very busy account, the filing and billing reviews now say when Clio held more records than one review can read, instead of quietly working from part of them, and filing a batch of emails will not run on that incomplete picture: run the review over fewer days, or file those emails one at a time.
  • A conflict check on a common name no longer stops quietly at the first 50 matters: when Clio has more, the assistant searches again with more of the name, and tells you if it still could not see them all.
  • Your schedule and the calendar sync say when your Outlook calendar had more events in the window than were read, rather than offering to add a date that may already be there.
  • When Clio or Outlook is busy and asks the assistant to wait while it reads, it now waits as long as they ask, up to a few minutes, and tries again instead of failing; and the filing and billing reviews in a morning brief now share one look at the firm's open matters and their contacts instead of each fetching it again.

Release 147 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 146 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • If the firm's subscription or free trial had lapsed and has since been put right, quitting Claude and reopening brings the assistant back straight away, instead of the next day; left open, it notices within a few minutes of being used. A corrected access key on this computer takes effect the next time Claude is reopened.
  • Two Claude windows open at the same time no longer risk signing you out of Clio or losing a sign-in. A saved setting that has been edited by hand into something that makes no sense, such as an hourly rate that is not a number, is now ignored instead of used; set it again and it is back.

Release 145 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 144 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • Before an email goes out, you now always see who it goes to and its subject as well as the text, and it is sent only to those people with that subject; if Outlook addressed a reply to anyone else, you are asked first.
  • If Outlook doesn't answer cleanly while an email is being sent, it is never sent a second time: you are told whether it went out, or that it can't be told yet, with an offer to check again in a minute.

Release 143 (2026-09-15)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 142 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • Opening a matter for someone new asks you for the client's name and the matter description in your own words instead of writing them from an email, and when several calendar entries, tasks or filings are made together you see exactly what will be written before you say yes.

Release 141 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • An evening hearing or deadline now shows on the day it is on for you, not the next day: the deadlines review, the calendar sync and your schedule count days in your own time zone.
  • An email you filed by hand in the evening no longer shows as unfiled the next morning: a Clio record that carries only a date is matched against the day the email arrived for you.
  • If your computer cannot say what its time zone is, the assistant tells you and adds nothing to a calendar rather than guessing.

Release 140 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • Adding or changing a person's role on your firm's account, and putting the firm's connection details on file, are now shown to you first and run only on your yes, and are recorded like everything else the assistant writes.

Release 139 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • When you log time from the billing review, the suggested wording now comes from the matter and the kind of work rather than the email's subject line unless that line is short and plain, and the proposal says where the wording came from so you can read it before it is written.

Release 138 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • Confirming a filing now files exactly the emails you were shown: a reply that lands in one of those threads after you saw the list is not filed, and is listed for next time.

Release 137 (2026-09-15)

In the assistant

  • Opening several new matters at once is now safe to interrupt: if your sign-in expires or one entry fails partway through, the assistant keeps the matters it already opened, tells you which one failed and which it never reached, and asks you to approve only those again. A person Clio already has under that email address gets their matter opened on the existing contact instead of a duplicate.

Release 136 (2026-09-14)

In the assistant

  • The billing review now counts only your own time entries as covering your work. If someone else at the firm logged time on the same matter that day, your email or meeting still shows as possible missing time, with a note that a colleague logged time on that matter that day.

Release 135 (2026-09-14)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 134 (2026-09-14)

Around it

  • The site now says who the assistant is for: attorneys, paralegals, and anyone else at the firm who works in Outlook and Clio. A Who it's for menu in the header leads with attorneys, the home page has a who-it's-for section, the FAQ answers "is it only for attorneys?", What it does lists all seventeen workflows, and pricing reads per person, which is what the terms have always said.

Release 133 (2026-09-14)

In the assistant

  • Filing one email of a long thread no longer hides the rest: the filing review keeps offering the other messages in that thread until each is filed, and "file the whole thread" files them in one go.

Release 132 (2026-09-14)

In the assistant

  • If the assistant on your computer has stopped updating itself, it now names the file that is in the way and fixes the usual cause on its own at the next start.

Release 131 (2026-09-14)

Around it

  • A new article: Keeping Clio's calendar and your Outlook calendar in step.
  • A new article: Running a conflict check in Clio, closed files included.

Release 130 (2026-09-14)

In the assistant

  • The morning brief, the paralegal daily rundown, and the weekly digest now read cleanly however many quiet matters the firm has and however long a meeting's invite list is: the quiet-matter line names the longest-quiet few and counts the rest, and a meeting with a big invite list shows as "with N people". Ask for the full list of quiet matters whenever you want it.

Release 129 (2026-09-14)

Around it

  • A page for paralegals: the six workflows a paralegal reaches for first, how roles work, and a Tuesday before and after.

Release 128 (2026-09-14)

In the assistant

  • In the last days of your firm's free trial, and if a payment ever fails, the sign-in status now carries the exact link where your firm's contact subscribes or updates the card.

Release 127 (2026-09-14)

In the assistant

  • If you administer your firm's account: say "put our connection details on file" once, from your own computer, and from then on "add Jane Doe, jane@yourfirm.com, as an attorney" emails Jane her own download link. Nobody copies a settings file to anyone.

Release 126 (2026-09-14)

Around it

  • The privacy page now says what the website's question box and the sign-up page's sign-in checks keep, and for how long.

Release 125 (2026-09-14)

Around it

  • A new article: Clio's Outlook add-in, Clio's automated filing, and where an assistant fits.

Release 124 (2026-09-14)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 119 (2026-09-14)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 118 (2026-09-14)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 117 (2026-09-14)

Around it

  • An Articles section on the site: filing Outlook email to Clio matters, finding missed billable time, what a paralegal can hand to an assistant, and what Claude Code is.

Release 116 (2026-09-14)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 115 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 114 (2026-09-13)

In the assistant

  • Three more things for a paralegal's day, for everyone at the firm: "what are we waiting on for this matter?" reads the requests you sent and the replies that came back, shows each outstanding item with how long it has waited, and drafts the follow-ups and tasks on your yes; "prep the pre-bill for this matter" reads the period's time entries and flags wording to improve, possible missing time, and questions, with a note for the attorney; "give me an index of the correspondence on this matter" builds a dated, numbered table with attachments and filing status to paste into a discovery log.
  • Matter intake now remembers your intake checklist once you have settled it, so the next new matter starts from your usual steps.

Around it

  • Three more paralegal skills: chasing outstanding items on a matter, pre-bill preparation, and a discovery index of a matter's correspondence. The intake checklist is remembered.

Release 113 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The Clio sign-in check on the sign-up page now asks Clio for one thing only, to confirm who you are; it no longer shows the assistant's own permissions.

Release 112 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 111 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • On the sign-up page, a firm can now prove Clio Manage by sign-in as well as Microsoft 365. Nothing is kept from either sign-in but the tick.
  • The site's chat button now reads "Have a question? Chat with us".

Release 110 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 109 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • On the sign-up page, a firm can prove it has Microsoft 365 with a sign-in instead of a tick. Nothing is kept from the sign-in but the tick itself; the same check for Clio Manage follows.

Release 108 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • A question box on every page of the site. It answers from the site's own pages and nothing else, points you to a person when the site has no answer, and lets you send the team a note - a question we missed, a feature request, a problem, a billing question - straight from the box.
  • billing@mglegalops.com for payments, invoices and receipts.

Release 107 (2026-09-13)

In the assistant

  • Three things for a paralegal's day, available to everyone at the firm: "open a matter for the new client" runs the conflict check, opens the contact and matter, adds your intake tasks, puts the first dates on both calendars, files the intake emails, and drafts the welcome email for the attorney to review; "calendar the deadlines for this matter" puts each date on Clio's calendar and yours with a reminder ahead of it, doing the sums you ask for and never applying a rule on its own; "what's on my plate?" is a rundown that leads with what is due over the next two weeks and what is missing from a calendar.
  • A matter can now be opened on a contact Clio already has, so a returning client never gets a duplicate contact.
  • If your firm's account lists you as a paralegal, the assistant leads with those three; an attorney gets them on request. The role changes what it offers first, never what it can do for you.

Around it

  • A paralegal role: the same assistant, every skill, leading with a paralegal's day - matter intake, deadlines on both calendars, a due-dates-first daily rundown. Firms choose attorney or paralegal when someone joins, and administrators can change it from the assistant.

Release 106 (2026-09-13)

In the assistant

  • If you administer your firm's account, you can ask the assistant who is on it and change roles: "who is on our account?", "make Jane an administrator", "add Pat as billing contact", "remove Sam from our account". It shows you the change first and applies it only on your yes; anyone else who asks is told it is for administrators.

Around it

  • A firm's administrator can see who is on the account and change roles from the assistant itself. Every role change and join approval is recorded, so a firm can always find out who granted what and when.

Release 105 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The join form explains each role in plain terms and offers only roles the service enforces: use the assistant, administer the firm's account, or billing contact only. An approved colleague gets their own download link; the administrator only approves.

Release 104 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • An attorney at a firm that already uses MG Legal Ops can ask to be added from the website; the firm's administrator approves them and their role before anything is issued.

Release 103 (2026-09-13)

In the assistant

  • If your firm's Microsoft connection for the assistant has a secret that is about to expire, the assistant tells you six weeks ahead, with what to ask your IT provider for.

Around it

  • Firms are warned six weeks before their own Microsoft connection secret expires, so sign-in never stops unexpectedly.

Release 102 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • Notices from MG Legal Ops now also arrive by email, from notices@mglegalops.com, with replies going to support.

Release 101 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 100 (2026-09-13)

In the assistant

  • When MG Legal Ops has something to tell your firm - a change that affects you, a problem being fixed - the assistant passes it on once, in a sentence, and carries on.

Around it

  • Firms are told about changes that affect them through the assistant itself and, once the mailbox is connected, by email to the people they named at sign-up; the privacy policy says what is kept.

Release 99 (2026-09-13)

In the assistant

  • If your firm's terms of service are about to change, the assistant tells you once, with the date - nothing is needed from you.

Release 98 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • Attorneys' computers now receive only the assistant itself, from a dedicated distribution repository, and nothing else from the maintainer's workspace.

Release 97 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 96 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 95 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • Sign up for the free trial on the website: tick the prerequisites, accept the terms, and get a private setup page that builds a ready-made folder for each attorney. Opens once MG Legal Ops LLC is registered and insured.

Release 94 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • Terms and Privacy are in the top navigation of every page, each with a version number; a firm accepts a stated version when it starts a trial or subscribes.

Release 93 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 92 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The What's new page now lists everything that changed around the assistant - the website, terms, pricing, the trial, security - beside what changed in the assistant itself.

Release 91 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 90 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The website is now separate pages - what it does, how it works, pricing, free trial, FAQ, contact, confidentiality - with one consistent header and footer and a refined look.
  • Terms of service strengthened on ownership and permitted use: the software is licensed, not sold; what a firm may and may not do with it; what happens when a subscription or trial ends.

Release 89 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • A firm that leaves has a clear, documented path: its subscription is switched off and its update access revoked, and it deletes the applications that are its own. Nothing of the firm's is touched.

Release 88 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The free trial no longer needs a card: fourteen days on one attorney's real inbox, nothing charged, nothing to cancel, and the assistant stops on its own unless the firm subscribes. The site, FAQ and terms say so.
  • In the last five days of a trial the assistant's status says when it ends and how to keep going.

Release 87 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The site has its mark: the MG monogram in the browser tab, on the iPhone home screen, and in every page header.

Release 86 (2026-09-13)

  • Fixes and small improvements.

Release 85 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The FAQ names Claude Code as the requirement.

Release 84 (2026-09-13)

Around it

  • The assistant now confirms once a day, with the firm's key, that the firm's subscription is current. It fails open: an unreachable service never stops an attorney; only an ended subscription does.

Release 83 (2026-09-13)

Release 52 (2026-09-12)

Release 51 (2026-09-12)

In the assistant

  • You can put the court dates and deadlines from Clio's calendar onto your own Outlook calendar. It shows you which ones are missing, adds the ones you approve, and never adds the same date twice. The morning brief points out a Clio date that isn't on Outlook.
  • You can ask for a client status update on a matter. It writes a short email from the file, what was done, what's next, and what you need from them, and shows you the whole draft before it goes to your Drafts folder.

Release 49 (2026-09-12)

In the assistant

  • You can ask for a conflict check. Give it the names involved in a new matter and it searches Clio's contacts and files, including closed ones, and shows you who matched and on which side. It also runs one on its own before opening a matter for anyone.

Release 48 (2026-09-12)

In the assistant

  • You can ask what the assistant did for you in a month: time entries and hours, emails filed, and more. If the firm has agreed, it can share those counts with the developer.
